Yesterday Fernando Alonso was happy to chat to the media ... today it was a very different story © Press Association

Not for the first time this season, Fernando Alonso was left fuming by the stewards, this time after they hit him with a drive-through penalty after he cut a corner overtaking Robert Kubica during the British Grand Prix. On what was another disappointing day for Ferrari, he finished 14th, one place ahead of team-mate Felipe Massa.

Alonso, who was left so angry he told his team he did not want to speak to them again on the radio during the latter stages of the race, refused to speak to the BBC claiming he was "too angry" but he did tell Spanish TV that he wanted consistency. "If a penalty must be punishing it must be always like this."

He refused to admit his title chances were hanging by a thread with Lewis Hamilton 47 points ahead. "This is just the halfway point of the season," he said. "All the points we've lost in the first half is because we haven't done things as well as the others. So in the second half we're going to try to do better than the others and recover more points than they have now.

"The season is very long and we are not going to give up."
